Chatarooni is a free random chat. We collect the minimum needed to run it, we show no ads, we use analytics to understand how the site is used, and we never sell your data.
Account. A display name and a gender (used only for matching preferences). If you sign in with Google we also receive your email address and basic profile info from Google. If you chat anonymously, your account is a random identity with no email attached.
Messages. Stranger-chat messages are stored so a dropped connection can recover the conversation, and are kept until you ask us to delete them. Messages with friends are kept for as long as the friendship exists, so the thread works like a normal DM.
Reports. If you report someone during a video call, a still image of their video is sent with the report. Report images are deleted after 30 days, unless they're evidence for a ban.
Presence. Whether you are online and when you were last seen, shown only to people on your friends list.
Technical data. If the app hits an error, your browser sends us an error report (the error message, the page it happened on, and your browser's user-agent string). Our host, Cloudflare, also keeps standard short-lived server logs.
Device check. When you start as a guest, your browser works out a short code from things like its screen size, processor count and timezone, and sends it when you sign in and when you connect to chat. We store a keyed hash of that code with your session and use it for one purpose: stopping someone we have banned from coming straight back as a new guest. It is never shared, and it cannot be turned back into anything about your device.
No advertising, no tracking pixels, no selling or renting data to anyone.
We set a session cookie to keep you signed in, and a routing cookie (chatarooni_d1_bookmark, expires after 24 hours) that lets our database serve you from the nearest region without ever showing you data older than what you've already seen. Your theme choice is kept in your browser's local storage. That's all. There are no marketing cookies.
Google sign-in. Optional. Google's own privacy policy governs what Google does with your sign-in.
YouTube. The watch-together feature embeds the YouTube player. When a video plays, YouTube (Google) may set its own cookies under its own privacy policy.
Cloudflare. Everything runs on Cloudflare's global network, so your data is processed on their infrastructure.
Stranger chats and friend messages: kept until you ask us to delete them. Account data: until you ask us to delete it, see data deletion.
