- Is Chatarooni free?
- Yes, completely. There’s no subscription, no paywall, and no premium tier hiding the good features.
- Do I need to sign up?
- No. You can start chatting instantly without an account or email. Creating one just lets you keep your friends list between visits.
- How does random chat work?
- Hit start and you’re paired with a random stranger who’s online right now. Not feeling the conversation? Skip, and you’re matched with someone new in seconds.
- Can I choose who I meet?
- Matching is random by design, and that’s the whole point. You’re paired with whoever’s online, and if it’s not clicking you can skip to someone new in seconds.
- Is there a mobile app?
- Chatarooni runs in the browser on any device, no download needed. On your phone, add it to your home screen and it opens like an app.
Features
- Can you play games with strangers?
- Yes. Challenge your chat partner to a game right inside the conversation. Moves sync live for both players, and you can ask for a rematch when you lose. New games are always being added.
- How does watch together work?
- Paste a YouTube link in the chat and the video opens for both of you, perfectly in sync. Play and pause are mirrored, and either of you can propose a different video.
- Is there video chat?
- Yes. Text and video chat are both live. Chatarooni is text-first, so you start by typing and turn the camera on when you and the other person want to.
- Can I change how it looks?
- Yes. Switch between light and dark from the header to suit your room or the time of day.
Friends and accounts
- Can I keep talking to someone I liked?
- Yes. Send a friend request during the chat. If they accept, you get a permanent message thread and can see when they’re back online.
- What happens to my chats?
- Messages with friends stick around, so you can pick up where you left off. Stranger chats are kept as well, and you can ask us to delete everything at any time.
- What data does Chatarooni use?
- Chatting works without an account. If you sign in with Google, Chatarooni only uses your basic profile info (name, email and picture) to create your account. Nothing is posted or shared.
- How do I delete my account?
- You can delete your account and its data at any time. The data deletion page on this site walks through the steps.
Safety
- Can I talk to strangers anonymously?
- Yes. You’re matched under a random nickname. No real name, phone number, or profile required.
- How old do you have to be?
- Chatarooni is for adults, 18 and up.
- What shouldn’t I share?
- Treat strangers online like strangers anywhere: keep your full name, address, socials and photos to yourself until you actually know someone. If anything feels off, skip. The next conversation is one tap away.
- Is Chatarooni an Omegle alternative?
- It is. Like Omegle, Chatarooni pairs you with random strangers for one-on-one chat, plus friends you can keep, videos you can watch together, and games you can play.
